When the calendar shows March 21, Kurdish New Year sets in. Sometimes a fire is lit the night before, like in Akre, to symbolically indicate the way to freedom.
Iraq - A freedom that is not obvious. New Year is welcomed with a picnic in the mountains. Families bring carpets and food. After lunch it is time for kites and some traditional dances. Iraqi Kurdistan in the picture.
